Iraq visit

In May 2023, G&E Sales joined Construct Green for a business delegation to Iraq. We returned to Baghdad for the second time and visited Erbil in the Kurdistan Region for the first time. The trip was all about making connections and finding opportunities for future work together.

The German Chamber of Commerce in Iraq & UAE and the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce "Ghorfa" organized everything. We traveled with some of Germany's biggest names—Lufthansa, Mercedes, Commerzbank, and other important names. It felt great to be part of this group, representing different industries. Everyone brought different topics to the table, but together we showed that German companies are known for: quality products, innovative solutions, and reliable partnerships.

The Goals We Wanted To Achieve

For G&E Sales and Construct Green, this trip had a clear purpose. We wanted to determine whether there is genuine interest in and need for sustainable construction and renewable energy solutions in Iraq. Are people ready for this? Do they see the value? What are their biggest challenges?

The answer was yes—there's definitely interest. The best part of the trip? Construct Green signed a partnership contract in Erbil with a local Iraqi company from Basra.

We also met with people from several important ministries: Interior, Transport, Water Resources, Electricity & Renewable Energy, and Health. Each meeting helped us understand what Iraq needs and where we might be able to help. The team at the Trade Bank of Iraq and various local companies were providing more insights about investments in Iraq and what sustainable construction could mean for them.

Additionally, we visited the Parliament to meet with H.E. Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani, which was definitely a highlight. He discussed making Iraq attractive to international investors and establishing long-term partnerships with countries like Germany.

Saying Goodbye to a Friend of German Business

The German Embassy in Baghdad invited us to a farewell event for Dr. Martin Jaeger, Germany's Ambassador to Iraq. He was leaving his post to move to Kiev. Dr. Jaeger had done much to support German companies in Iraq and make us feel welcome. We wanted to thank him personally for everything he'd done to strengthen business ties between Germany and Iraq. His work made it easier for companies like us to see Iraq as a real opportunity.

Our First Time in Kurdistan

Erbil was new territory for us, and we're glad we went. The Kurdistan Region has its own energy and opportunities. We met with Invest Kurdistan, and the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works. Everyone was professional, welcoming, and genuinely interested in partnerships.

Meeting Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was special. He thanked Germany for its support during the fight against ISIS and talked about wanting to build stronger business relationships with German companies. His vision for Kurdistan's future matched well with the interest of building sustainable partnerships.

We also attended the opening of the expanded German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK) office in Erbil. Overall, it was a very important and insightful trip where we were able to connect with Iraqi and Kurdish companies and network for future business opportunities.

There is real potential in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The people there are ready for the kind of partnership that G&E Sales and Construct Green offer—not a quick deal, but a long-term commitment to building something better together.

If you have a strong interest in engaging with the Iraqi and Kurdish region, we invite you to connect with us. There are numerous exciting projects waiting to be planned, valuable partnerships to be established, and significant work to be accomplished.
